Design Ethos
Stelar Fusion is a fictional Kent, WA-based fusion company focused on building the first stellarator-based fusion reactor on the West Coast. Using a highly modified variant of the German-based Wendelstein 7X, Stelar Fusion aims to replicate the conditions needed for a Q > 1 reaction, thereby producing a net gain in power.
Two key elements inspire the brand for Stelar Fusion: 1) the stars and 2) the design of the stellarator itself. The word “stellar” evokes a connotation to the Latin word for “star” while also referring to the first part of the word “stellarator.” Note that a stellarator is a plasma device that attempts to mediate some irregularities found within other containment methods by introducing artificial entropy to the fusion environment.t
The Stelar Fusion logo is a simplified view of a top-down look of the looping magnets surrounding a stellarator. These magnets are critical to providing the containment measures needed to support a fusion reaction. The logo is also designed to directly reference a star, with beams of plasma emanating from its core, similar to our sun. This imagery effectively establishes the technological focus and inspiration of the company.
The typography chosen is Clash Display by Indian Type Foundry. It’s sans-serif and geometric structure is perfect for Stelar Fusion logo, offering a sleek, futuristic appeal. Its small apertures and stroke contrast in various weights embody modernity and precision, mirroring Stelar Fusion's cutting-edge approach, while ensuring excellent readability and a strong visual impact for brand identity.
The chosen color palette embodies a celestial dichotomy—ethereal light blues evoke boundless daytime skies, while the deep navy and black ground the identity in the vastness of the cosmos, perfect for Stelar Fusion's interstellar brand ethos. It's a harmonious blend of innovation and infinity.
In essence, Stelar Fusion's brand fuses stellar inspiration with technological prowess, symbolizing a beacon of progress in the quest for sustainable energy.
